The city of Dollard-des-Ormeaux takes its name from a hero of New France, Adam Dollard des Ormeaux. Despite Quebec’s toponymy commission recommending the single-hyphenated spelling of Dollard-des Ormeaux, the city has stuck with the double-hyphenation. Dollard-des-Ormeaux – or DDO as it’s widely called –merged with the city of Montreal in January 2002, but demerged a few years later in 2006.

DDO abounds in green spaces; the best example being Centennial Park, which spans some 48 hectares. The land that was removed to form the park’s manmade lake was used to build two hills from which Mount Royal can be seen.
